It’s Time to Go Nuts with Your Home Office Decor

Those who began working from home last year might have turned a space in their homes into an office, and at first, it might have been a neutral area that could revert back at moment’s notice. But with many people still working in those spaces, it might be time for a makeover.

According to design experts, neutrals are out for home offices, and it’s time to infuse some personality into the space.

Daniela Benloulou and Nicole Graff, co-owners and principal designers for Los Angeles-based Hamsa Home, explain that home offices have become a new type of powder room—a place where you can show off your personality. That’s partially because of the continued popularity of work from home.

“People are embracing sides of their personalities that maybe they thought … wouldn’t be allowed in a professional setting back in the day,” said Benloulou. But now that everyone is working from home, it’s like showing off a little of your personality.”

Benloulou and Graff specifically cite details like wall color as a way to jazz up a home office and infuse a bit of yourself into the decor. With so many still having video meetings and events, your walls have become the backdrop and plain old white is out. Instead, gallery walls, textured or patterned wallpaper, and bold colors are the way to go.
