This Is the Kitchen Appliance That Doesn’t Need a Major Upgrade

When selling a home, you might be tended to make a few upgrades in order to increase its value. That makes sense. However, there’s one appliance upgrade you shouldn’t make.

While smart home features are still an attractive component of a house, it’s smart fridges that just aren’t worth the investment.

“They’re waning in attraction these days for good reason,” said Matthew Rathbun, executive vice president for Coldwell Banker Elite. “We just don’t use the features on that fancy door and they’re expensive.”

It’s not just the cost, though, according to Rathbun. There’s also a time limit on the fridge’s capabilities. He said that the updates for the fridge won’t continue for the full life of the appliance. Eventually, the fridge will become outdated even if it is still functional.

Dave Antonell an agent at Compass repeated these sentiments but included all smart appliances. He said homeowners should be careful when integrating tech into their home as its always changing and evolving and many of the installed features are meant to be permanent.

If you feel yourself being drawn to a smart fridge, it might be better to opt for something a bit simpler. Smart lighting could be the better option.
