Some interior design features never go out of style, and a classic is coming back in 2022. This time, though, it’s getting a modern update.
Wainscotting is set to be a major interior design trend in 2022 according to experts, but it’ll take on an updated feel.
Alessandra Wood, vice president of style for Modsy, told Insider that the classic will come back as a way to upstyle cookie-cutter homes. Wood said it’s the perfect way to make a home feel regal and elevated. Plus, depending on your color choices and design, it can add some uniqueness to that very standard home.
Speaking of color, the classic white wainscotting isn’t the type that’s coming back. Instead, it’s going to follow an existing trend of using deeper, moodier shades (like using shades of blue in bedrooms).
“Wainscoting in a deep, saturated color is popular because it leans into the moody color trend,” Wood said, “adding an elevated look to any room with features that make the space look much more expensive.”
Alongside wainscotting, Wood points to textured furniture, gray walls, and antiques as on the rise for interiors. You can see all of her predictions at Insider.
If wainscotting seems like an intense trend to take up, though, don’t worry. You can always add interest to your room with a gallery wall.
