December is here, and that means the holiday season is in full swing. Whether you’ve already put up your Christmas tree or are a little behind schedule, there’s a clever hack that’ll make it look even brighter.

According to one interior designer, all you need to add some extra brightness to your tree is an extra string of lights, but don’t worry, you don’ need to restring your tree.

Alexis Garrett, the principal designer at San Diego-based Alexis Garrett Design, said tucking a ball of lights into the back of your tree will give the piece of decor a little extra oomph and fix any dullness you might be noticing.

“Once every branch is wrapped with white lights, I take a couple of full strands of lights and make a ball of lights,” Garrett told My Domaine. “Then, I set the ball on branches in the back of the tree for extra shine.”

Boost the brightness with these lights.

Typically, string lights get concentrated near the front of branches, and this can make the interior of the tree looks a bit dull. By stashing some lights out of sight in the back of the tree, you can provide more brightness without restringing your entire tree.

If you haven’t strung your lights, though, you might want to try this clever TikTok hack that’ll make the process markedly easier.
