When it comes to takeout, there are a few staples that probably come to mind. Pizza is almost certainly one of them. Turns out, though, that it’s been dethroned as the top favorite.
According to DoorDash’s annual Deep Dish report, gyro bowls beat out pizza as one of the most popular items ordered during 2021.
The delivery service’s report looks at orders over the past year to determine the biggest trends. When it came to food, a gyro bowl—which is basically a deconstructed Greek gyro—was able to edge out pizza and claim the number three spot among the most popular takeout items.
Pizza, however, didn’t have a bad showing. In fact, it came in just behind the bowls at number four. As for the winner and runner-up? French fries came in at the number one spot, and chicken nuggets were number two. Though, they’re kind of a match made in heaven and should be ordered together, right?
While seeing if your food tastes match others’ is fun, DoorDash didn’t just round up its top food deliveries this year. You can also compare convenience store orders (ice cream was a big fave) as well as home goods (got navy sheets? So does everyone else, apparently).
