Charcuterie boards have long been a staple in entertaining, but in 2020-21, these appetizer and snack boards saw some major upgrades. Now, it looks like yet another version is coming in 2022.

According to ALDI’s charcuterie board of directors, French fry boards will be big in the upcoming year. These tastemakers, who are tasked with creating innovative and festive boards, see French fries as a new, unique take on the existing trend. It joins popular iterations like baked potato boards, chocolate boards, and ice cream boards.

For fry enthusiasts, crafting these boards should be a cinch. Essentially, you’ll need to consider all the iterations of fries you love (think curly, steak, shoestring, or veggie) and the toppings and dips you eat with them.

For example, you could pair steak fries and crinkle fries, which are hardier options, with toppings like chili and cheese, and add dipping sauces like ranch and sriracha mayonnaise. Just be sure to add a warming tray underneath to prevent your fries from going cold and soggy.

French fry boards aren’t totally new, though. Chefs and recipe makers have already been crafting them. They’re just simply growing in popularity this year. Food blogger Sarah Gim made her iteration at the beginning of 2020 and included everything from tater tots to waffles fries, and blogger Sam Schnur created a similar board adding in potato chips.

If you’re planning to do some hosting in 2022, a French fry board might just be the ticket, but if you want to stick with a classic, check out all the things you need for the perfect charcuterie board here.
