While many people prefer using nonstick pans in the kitchen for the sake of ease, if you want to invest in durable, long-lasting cookware, stainless steel is a good choice. If food getting stuck to your new cookware is a concern, though, we have a solution.

Misen took to TikTok and explained that you can ensure your stainless-steel pan is nonstick every time by pre-heating before adding food. The simplest way to check if you’ve got the right temperature is to test with water.

In the video, a host explains you should first turn your stovetop to medium heat and allow it to warm for about a minute. Then, spoon a bit of water into the pan. If it sizzles or does nothing, the pan isn’t ready yet, and you should wait another minute.

If the water separates into multiple beads, it’s too hot, and you should turn down the heat and allow it to cool. When the water forms a single bead that slips around the surface, that’s when the pan is ready to use.

To demonstrate, after ensuring the pan is warmed, the host adds a bit of oil to the pan (yes, you still need to do this step) and then cracks an egg onto the surface. The egg immediately starts to fry, and as the host moves the pan, it slides around seamlessly.
