How to Stay Cool and Keep Away Flies at Your Next Barbecue

When the sun is shining and the temperatures are warm, you don’t want to spend all your time indoors. You might be planning a few barbecues and parties. However, they come with two main problems: heat and flies.

Turns out, though, that you can ward off flies and stay cool at the same time with a single solution: a fan.

Many people turn to citronella candles to keep flies at bay and shaded areas to keep cool. You don’t need either (though we won’t turn down a good umbrella). Adding an oscillating fan to your patio, porch, or entertaining space can both ward off flies and keep you cool.

A pedestal fan is a great option for your patio.

Flies don’t have the strength to compete with the power of the oscillating fan, even if the pressure is mild to you. By essentially simulating strong wind conditions and directing your fan toward your table of food or your guests, you’ll be able to keep flies at bay. While this might cool your meal down a bit, the warm weather should help keep it fairly warm.

This trick doesn’t just work for flies, though. It’s also an effective way to keep mosquitos at bay. However, just to be on the safe side, we’d still recommend a good bug spray, but you can always try a DIY option that’ll make you smell nice.

If you’re already planning your next barbecue, you might just want to grab a fan or two for the occasion.
