Tweak Your Couch Color on the Cheap with a Throw Blanket

A beautifully decorated living room with a blue throw blanket over the back of the white couch.

If you’re anything like me, a throw blanket on your couch is just, well, literally thrown over the arm. This simple decorating technique, however, requires a little more purposeful placement.

Over at Apartment Therapy they’d like you to stop tossing your throw blankets over the arm of your sofa and start spreading them out to introduce a bigger splash of color and texture:

“So, what if we told you that you could go ahead and revamp your sofa on a major budget and in less than a few minutes’ time, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are? Yes, this trick is really that simple, and it’s something designer Emily Henderson herself did in her last house to refresh her white sofa, which you can see above.

All you have to do is find an oversized throw blanket or vintage textile in a color or pattern of your choosing and ensure that it’s large enough to cover the back—or the seat—of your sofa. That’s it!”

The real beauty of this is the ease and impermanence of the change. If you hate the color or texture of the blanket, you’re just stuck with a blanket, not a brand-new couch.
