Innerbody set out to see which U.S. state has the most (and least) holiday cheer, and the results are in! They analyzed Google trends to see which keywords were searched the most in each state. Drum roll, please…
West Virginia! The Mountain State took home the title of the most festive state in America, with the state’s most popular aspect of the season being Christmas drinks and the Elf on the Shelf.
Runner-ups include New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Montana.
The bah-humbugs of the Christmas season—aka the states that placed as the least festive in America— are New York, Hawaii, Nevada, California, and Florida, with New York topping the list of number one least festive.
Of course, with Christmas comes fun and festive holiday activities. Those were also analyzed, with the most popular aspect of Christmas in the U.S. (searched the most in 15 states) being Christmas Eve. Some of the states who love the night before Christmas the most are Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, and Indiana. Some states were in the giving spirit and topped the list in wrapping paper searches. These states include Washington, Louisiana, Oregon, and Virginia.
