Fitting a workout into your day isn’t always easy, but it’s even more of a challenge to find time for washing gym clothes. You might not be able to do it right away, which can leave your hamper smelling like a locker room. Gross.
Some people are combatting that smell by sticking their sweaty clothes in the freezer. It might sound like a good way to wake you up for that morning workout, but there’s more to it than that.
Putting your gym clothes in a plastic bag and then tossing them into the freezer can stop bacterial growth and keep them from stinking. But, is it worth it?

Let’s face it, this is kind of a weird hack. The last thing you want is to forget about your sweaty clothes until the next time you reach for a bag of frozen peas. If you have the time and space, a better alternative to stopping the smell of sweat is simply to “air out” your gym clothes before tossing them in the hamper. Lay them out somewhere flat so they can completely dry.
Of course, if you don’t have a lot of room to lay out your clothes, or you’re just home long enough to toss your gym gear inside before you have to leave again, the freezer is an option. It’s much better than balling up your sweaty shirt and letting bacteria spread in your hamper or throughout your other dirty clothes.
Freezing out bacteria can be an effective way to stop stench before you get to your laundry, but do what you can to plan ahead and air out your gym gear, if possible. Because sure, this hack might work, but it’s really weird.
