People use WD-40 for everything from keeping snow off their windows to cleaning plastic furniture. But, its best and most popular practice is preventing squeaky hinges. No one wants their doors to sound like a haunted house. But what if you’re out?
In some cases, you might want to consider putting peanut butter on hinges. Yes, you read that correctly.
Peanut butter and WD-40 might not immediately seem to be in the same category. But, if you’ve ever bought natural peanut butter, you know that it typically comes with a layer of oil on top. The natural oil in peanut butter can serve as a decent substitute for WD-40 on squeaky hinges.
Simply apply a small amount of the peanutty spread to your hinges, and then wipe it clean. It might be a bit impractical and your dog might be spending a lot more time sniffing around your doors. But, if you’re desperate to get rid of the squeak, this is a hack that really works.
You don’t necessarily have to buy peanut butter with oil on top, either. Just about any brand should work as all peanut butter has natural oils in it. Use what you have on hand, don’t go overboard, and be sure to wipe away as much as possible.
You probably won’t want to substitute peanut butter for WD-40 for things like cleaning or keeping snow away. But, in a pinch, it’s a great lubricant option to help your doors open and close smoothly and quietly.
