When it comes to mood improvement strategies and learning how to make your day just a little bit better, people will try pretty much anything. But if you’re not into the wilder ways to give yourself a boost, there might be an unexpected (and easy way) to do it.

Apparently, changing your socks mid-day might result in a mood boost. While admittedly, there’s no scientific backing for this, there’s also no harm in trying it.

According to content creator and tattoo artist Tyler Nicholas, changing his socks during the day helps improve his mood. Nicholas explained in his video that he’s been bringing a clean pair of socks to work and changing them at lunch for 10 years. Each time it helps him feel “brand new.”

People have certainly taken note of the tip since the video has a cool 713,000 likes on TikTok.

So, could this be backed up by any sort of science? Kind of. Well+Good spoke with  Brad Schaeffer, DPM, board-certified podiatrist and foot surgeon, who explained that during the day, our feet get sweaty, and throughout the entire day, they can create as much as half a pint of moisture. Switching your socks can give you an added clean feeling. Maybe that could bring about a mood boost.

Try compression socks out for yourself.

Compression socks are one thing that might make this mood-boosting hack legitimate (but again, there’s really no science here). Well+Good also spoke with Emily Splichal, DPM, a functional podiatrist, who said even for those without circulation issues, compression socks can help ease pain and swelling for those who are on their feet all day. Perhaps, switching to a compression option halfway through the day might be the ticket here.

So could changing your socks be a mood booster for you? Maybe. While sure, there’s not a whole lot of evidence to back up this claim, it’s changing into a pair of socks. Trying it might just be worth it.
