If you’re new to working from home, establishing a new routine can be tough. But take it from this experienced work-at-home mom—whatever you do, don’t skip lunch!

Eating healthy, well-rounded meals at least three times a day is an essential way to take in nutrients that provide energy for your body. When you skip meals, you risk overeating later on or choosing unhealthy snacks when you’re hungry.

Breaking for meals is especially essential when you work from home because you spend a large part of your day in front of a screen and doing household tasks.

So, make sure you take some time away from your busy day to sit down and enjoy a delicious lunch.

A Well-Balanced Lunch

It’s healthy to take a digital break and separate yourself from the computer, especially when you’re home. Get away from your desk or work area, and take the time to prepare a tasty, satisfying meal.

Also, try to stock your fridge with healthy foods. This way, on quieter or less hectic workdays, you’ll have the necessary ingredients if you want to prepare a proper meal.

If a typical workday is pretty demanding, you can also prepare a few meals ahead of time. Portion out the food and prepare the ingredients, so grabbing lunch is fast and easy.

Your typical workday shouldn’t change just because you’re at home. If you normally take a half-hour break to eat lunch or take a walk, keep doing so.

Snacking at Home

Since your fridge and pantry are right down the hall, unwrapping a sweet or salty snack is dangerously convenient. However, unhealthy snacks will make you tired, which is also dangerous because your bed is also just down the hall.

Eliminate the temptation by filling your fridge with nutritious and satiating snacks that will energize your body. Fruits, vegetables, low-sugar yogurt, and nuts are all excellent choices.

Spend some time on Sunday prepping your healthy snacks so you can just grab them whenever you’re ready. Boil a few eggs, slice up a few oranges, or prepare some veggies and hummus.

This way, when those hunger pangs strike and you’re busy clicking away on your keyboard, you’ll have plenty of snacks you won’t feel guilty about eating.
