Good-quality sleep is essential for our well-being, however, it’s not always a guarantee. If you’ve been struggling to doze off at night these days, the “most relaxing song in the world” can help you out.
Sometimes, falling asleep is not an easy task. Right as you decide it’s time to get some shut-eye, an endless parade of thoughts begin to cross your mind, causing you to stay in bed wide awake for hours on end—it’s frustrating. More often than not, the culprit is stress. Sleep deprivation can have a negative impact on different aspects of our lives, so it’s imperative that you find ways to improve your sleeping routine. Music, as it turns out, can help mitigate the issue.
Back in 2011, the UK ambient group Marconi Union, in collaboration with The British Academy of Sound, crafted a song that could be used as a sleeping aid. Titled “Weightless,” the song has a calm and soothing melody and a heartbeat-like rhythm, with a sound reminiscent of meditation music.
In one study, the overall level of anxiety of female participants was reduced by 65 percent after listening to the song and, in a recent one, the track was found to have a similar calming effect as medication on patients that were about to go into surgery. While these findings are not definitive and need further research, they’re still rather promising. You can judge its effectiveness yourself.
If you’re in need of a little extra help to fall asleep and get the recommended eight hours of shut-eye these days, press play on “Weightless” and let it carry you into the land of dreams. Just don’t add it to your driving playlist!
