If you plan to enjoy a lot of fancy coffee drinks at home, ideally, you should have a fancy espresso machine to make them with. But if you hadn’t planned ahead for that, this video tutorial can help you recreate them without the fancy machine.
It’s not too difficult to brew a straight cup of black coffee at home. But when it comes to espresso or espresso-like rich extractions, steamed milk, milk froth, and the other elements of the coffee-shop coffee experience, it’s a bit trickier.
While it’s nice to have a big espresso machine at home with a powerful steam wand, it’s not exactly a common sight on most kitchen counters. No worries though, James Hoffman has a DIY guide to recreating fancy coffee drinks without $1500+ worth of gear.
Although you won’t need a pricey espresso machine to follow along at home, to get some of the results he gets in the above video you will need some relatively inexpensive tools like a Moka pot (to create strong espresso-like coffee) and a French press or electric milk frother (to froth milk).
