Curious About Tiny Home, Off-Grid Living? Watch This Video

A woman working in her garden outside a tiny homestead.
Exploring Alternatives/YouTube

Instagram snapshots of tiny home living make the experience look cozy and glamorous. This 15-minute tour of what years of the tiny homestead life is really like paints a much fuller picture.

The house in question belongs to Ariel, a nature photographer who wanted less overhead and more time in the woods. And she was willing to ditch a whole lot of things the rest of us take for granted (like city water and Netflix) to make it happen.

The video doesn’t gloss over the difficult aspects, either—like hauling your own water or living by oil lamp to save solar energy. This makes it far more interesting to watch than a glamorous “greatest hits” reel.

If you want to check out more tiny homes and other non-standard living arrangements, like houseboats, you’ll find them on this same YouTube channel, Exploring Alternatives.
