Black Friday is arguably the largest shopping holiday in the United States, which prompts many major retailers to open early for the event the day before. In 2020, however, major retailers are closing for Thanksgiving.
Walmart was the first to announce its plans to close shop on Thanksgiving Day and leave them that way. The big-box retailer cited the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a desire to give its employees the day to spend time with family as the reason behind its decision. Soon, other retailers followed suit.
Whether you’re a committed Black Friday shopper or just curious about where you might be able to get a last-minute Turkey Day ingredient, here are the major retailers that have announced Thanksgiving Day closures so far:
- Academy Sports + Outdoors
- Bed Bath & Beyond
- Best Buy
- Dick’s Sporting Goods
- J.C. Penney
- Kohl’s
- Office Depot and OfficeMax
- Sam’s Club
- Target
- Walmart
