Amazon may want to watch its back. Walmart’s new membership service, Walmart+, is coming in to compete with Amazon’s same-day delivery services.
Walmart+ is launching on Sep. 15, and will cost shoppers $98 a year, or $12.95 per month. The service will offer a multitude of perks, including unlimited free delivery services, discounts on gas, and tools that the retailers says will make shopping easier for customers. One of them is a new scan and go program. Shoppers can use their smartphones and the Wal-Mart app to scan items as they shop in stores and then pay using the app for a no-contact checkout experience. As the membership program continues, more perks will be added.
Of the new service, Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer says in a press release, “We are a company committed to meeting our customers’ needs. Customers know they can trust us and depend on us, and we’ve designed this program as the ultimate life hack for them. Walmart+ will bring together a comprehensive set of benefits where we see the greatest needs from our customers and where our scale can bring solutions at an unprecedented value.”
For people who want no-contact shopping or aren’t in an area serviced by other same-day delivery options, this is a service worth keeping an eye on.
