You Can Sleep in an Axe Murder House for Halloween

An old black and white photo of the Villisca Ax Murder House.
The Villisca Ax Murder House

Thrill-seekers, your spooky dreams are about to come true. This Halloween, you can sleep in an ax murder house, and yes, an actual axe murder did, in fact, occur there.

The Villisca Axe Murder House is, well, what it sounds like. A home in Iowa where a family and two friends were murdered using what appears to have been an axe. The murders occurred in 1912, and the victims included a married couple, their four children, and two children who were there for an overnight stay. Today, the murders still remain unsolved, and the home has been converted into a historical site that you can visit in the town of Villisca.

You can tour the home during the day, but if you really want to live your best Ghosthunter life, you can choose to stay overnight for a cool $428. You’ll have the house from 4 p.m. to 9:30 a.m, and will need to bring your own sleeping bags and pillows.

If you’re up for a road trip and want to get a real thrill this Halloween, you might want to stay at the Villisca Axe Murder House this October.
