11 Awesome Fall Candles That Aren’t Pumpkin Scented

There’s nothing wrong with the sweet scent of pumpkin, but it’s not the only seasonally appropriate aroma. There are plenty of candles that feature the other wonderful smells associated with autumn.

Let’s be honest: pumpkins don’t really have much of a scent until you carve them, and even then, the smell isn’t fantastic. What you get with pumpkin-scented candles and the like is more of a pumpkin pie, spiced scent—a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.

That does smell wonderful, but the market is so flooded with it, no one will blame you for seeking out other options. Other wonderful fall scents include apples, vanilla, and smokey wood.

You can get something sweet, something richer and more masculine, or both! Below are some enticingly scented fall candles, and there’s not a pumpkin in sight.

Bath and Body Works Dutch Apple Waffle

The three-wick candles from Bath and Body Works are incredibly popular because, not only do they smell great, but they also come in a huge range of scents. They also burn evenly and for a very long time. Plus, the jars are cute!

The Dutch Apple Waffle candle literally smells like a plate of waffles and will probably make you hungry. It mixes the delicious scents of warm baked apple slices, steaming hot buttermilk waffles, and nutmeg. Sometimes, apple-scented candles can be too “appley,” but the other fragrant notes here balance this one out perfectly.

DW Home Thanksgiving Feast

The large, double-wick jars from DW Home are another of our personal favorites. They last forever—we’re talking weeks or months, depending on how often you light them. The scents are also wonderfully unique.

For example, Thanksgiving Feast has a fragrance profile of buttery mashed potatoes, salted gravy, sage stuffing, and cranberry sauce. It smells as good as it sounds. It really does smell like Thanksgiving and all that yummy comfort food.

Diptyque Feu de Bois

A Diptyque Feu de Bois candle.

Diptyque is our favorite luxury candle. It’s the kind you purchase when you feel like spending a ridiculous amount of money on something that burns. Or, if you happen to be in Paris and can get them for much cheaper. They’re minimalist and chic, and the signature font and logo work with any decor.

The Feu de Bois scent is the most well-known from this brand. The woody, wintery aroma is meant to make you feel like you’re walking through the woods on a long winter’s day. It isn’t your typical “sweet” fall scented candle, so it might be exactly what you want this season.

Yankee Candle Autumn Wreath

Yankee Candles are classics because the jars are huge and the scents are always wonderful. They’re also affordable and you can find them basically anywhere. While they come in a wide array of fall scents, Autumn Wreath is one of the all-time best.

It’s smells like autumn leaves and cinnamon apples. It’s kind of a spicy scent that will make your home feel warmer and cozier.

Homesick Friday Night Football

If you grew up in a town where football was huge, then Friday night games throughout the fall were probably the norm. Homesick creates candles that are meant to embody specific places, so you can remember them no matter where you are. And, weirdly, its Friday Night Football candle does just that!

The top notes are grass, leather, and lemon, so it’s definitely a bit woodier and more masculine. Mid-notes include popcorn and cedarwood, and you’ll also smell hints of musk, dirt, and steel. Yes, that sounds weird, but these all come together to create that “football” smell you didn’t even know you were missing.

Remember the smell of high school football games? No? This candle will bring it all back.

Sweet Water Decor Hello Fall

You know how autumn can sometimes have a scent you can’t really place? That’s what this Sweet Water Decor Hello Fall candle smells like!

It mixes the scents of hot cider, cinnamon, cloves, apples, and nutmeg. It’s the perfect combination of spicy and sweet, and it will create that fall feeling throughout your entire home. The minimalistic jars also make cute decor pieces.

Voluspa Baltic Amber

Voluspa candles are truly gorgeous to look at, so you might want to save the huge jars when the candle is done to use as a vase or other decor. The Baltic Amber scent is a fan favorite that’s perfect for fall and winter.

It has notes of amber resin and sandalwood that create a pleasantly woody smell. Vanilla orchid adds a really nice touch of sweetness that definitely isn’t too overpowering. It’s really warm and inviting, and the jar is pretty big, so it will last for a while.

Boy Smells Ash

Boy Smells candles are meant to merge masculine and feminine scents into the perfect fragrance. Ash smells like being outside near the firepit on a chilly autumn night.

It includes notes of firewood, smoke, charcoal, palo santo, and hay. You’ll literally feel like you’re hanging out near a barn or on a farm somewhere.

Boulangerie Vanilla and Fig

If you’re looking for something sweet instead of woody or outdoorsy, then check out Boulangerie’s Vanilla and Fig. It’s a mix of vanilla, orchid petals, figwood, and black mission figs. It’s a bit spicy, but also fruity and sweet, so it smells like you’re baking something delicious.

The old-fashioned-looking jars are so cute, you’ll want to clean them out and keep them as decor.

We wait for Mrs. Meyers fall scents all year, and Acorn Spice is our favorite. You didn’t know acorns even had a scent? Well, maybe they don’t, and this one is just made up, but it doesn’t matter because it smells so good!

The fragrance is a blend of nutty acorn, cinnamon, and other warming spices. It’s comforting, a little spicy, and perfectly cozy.

L’or de Seraphine Ares

L’or de Seraphine

If you’re looking for a candle that manages to be sophisticated, chic, and beautiful, while also smelling fantastic, pick up this L’or de Seraphine Ares candle. It will make you feel very fancy as it burns, but more importantly, it smells amazing!

The notes are a mix of sage, cedarwood, eucalyptus, and patchouli, so it’s spicy, woody, and also grounding. We’re also obsessed with the unique and beautiful packaging—you’ll definitely want to reuse and repurpose these when the candle burns out.
