In a world where the news isn’t always the most uplifting thing in the world, a feel-good story is a welcome addition. Rick Barber’s daily sunrise photo of his hometown is just that.
Barber, who is from Ogunquit, Maine, has been photographing the sunrise in his hometown for the last seven years. While Barber didn’t dub himself a professional until recently, his work is nonetheless impressive. His Twitter account is full of scrollable photos of different parts of Ogunquit as the sun comes up—though most appear to be taken at the seaside.
In an interview for News Center Maine, Barber said of his seven-year task, “There’s something about the start of the day. lt’s a way that one can get going again and to watch the sun come means that we have another day given to us to do good things for each other.”

While Barber does travel and isn’t in his hometown every day, he continues to take a sunrise photo regardless of where he is.
