The temperatures are falling and your need for cozy food is rising. The good news, though, is Ina Garten’s tomato soup recipe can help.
The famous tv chef recently launched her newest cookbook that centers on, you guessed it, comfort food. In the collection of recipes, entitled Modern Comfort Food. She’s got some secrets to share. Two of them are key ingredients she says should be in all of your tomato soup endeavors: cream and saffron.
Her tomato soup recipe, which you can find in full in the new cookbook (and even sneak a peak at as a preview page in the Amazon listing for the book), is based on ways to make comfort food easier to make and even better than what’s in your memory.
She told NPR, “It’s funny, this was like the easiest book I’ve ever written, but I sat down and thought about all of those flavors that we remember from childhood. And in each case, I just said, OK, how can I make better tomato soup? So, I did it with a little saffron and I did it with a splash of cream. So, it was a little richer. And I did that with each thing, you know, every single one. I just took a remembered flavor that was familiar. And I just thought, how can I make it better? How can I make it easier to make?”
If you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect tomato soup recipe or you just love the Barefoot Contessa, her new comfort food-based cookbook may be a good buy this holiday season.
