There are several iconic kitchen items in American homes. From Le Creuset’s dutch over to Smeg appliances, some things you’re not surprised to find in kitchens. Another? A KitchenAid mixer. These classic tools also happen to come in several colors, but it’s not the plain white one pictured here.

Kitchenaid surveyed 5,000 users of its stand mixers across the country and discovered that Blue Velvet is its most popular shade in most states (18 to be exact). So popular, in fact, it’s temporarily out of stock everywhere including direct from the manufacturer.  As for why? No reason was given, but the cool-toned blue is a soothing shade. Plus, while not a traditional neutral, the color could work with multiple types of decor, or if you want a pop of color in your white kitchen, it provides it without being too vibrant.

In addition to the cool blue, though, Kitchenaid’s 2020 color of the year, Kyoto Glow—a muted lime-toned green—came in second place with another blue shade, Aqua Sky, following in third. Could cool-toned shades be a new kitchen appliance trend? Based on these 2020 colors, they may be.

But the brand didn’t just discover what colors are popular. It also surveyed Kitchenaid users on their favorite items to bake. The results span everything from cookies to cake to pies, but the pies have it. Apple and pumpkin top the lists above all other baked goods.

But if you want to know the rest of the baked goods or where the iconic red shade of the Kitchenaid mixer fall, you can check out the survey results on Food & Wine.
