For those with green thumbs, the fall is an ideal time to start prepping for your spring florals. There’s no shortage of options, but what are some of the most popular fall plants? There are a few key winners.
K. van Bourgondien—a bulb and perennial wholesaler—did some digging on the most popular fall plantings in every state. To do so, the company examined data from Google Trends from September 2019 through December 2019, and looked at elements like climate, soil, and personal preferences. The result? A list of all 50 states’ favorite fall flowers. The most popular overall is the tulip.
This flower rose to the top of multiple states’ lists and seems to be most popular among states in the Great Lakes region, like Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. But tulips were also high-ranking in other areas that have vastly different climates than more northerly states, such as Florida and California. This is likely due to the fact that tulips are highly adaptable flowers, and can survive in multiple climates. Mix in very little effort after their initial planting, and you have an ideal flower for your spring garden.

If you want to see which plant is the most popular in your state, you can check out all of the findings over at K. van Bourgondien, and if you live in the right climate, it may not be too late to plant some yourself.
