Homes took on a new meaning in 2020. From home offices to virtual schools, your house likely became your, well, everything. One of 2021’s design trends is taking the chaos that was this past year and working to make your house a more calming space once again.
There are several trends coming in 2021, like a boom in the popularity of gallery walls and bold office colors. The latest prediction, though, focuses on the color blue. According to Los Angeles interior designer Gabrielle Santiago, the calming nature of the hue is going to make it a popular choice for interiors during 2021. He tells Better Homes & Gardens, “Colors have such a high impact on our mood and behaviors inside our homes. Shades of blues are timeless and the perfect color to relax our minds and center ourselves—something we so desperately need after the chaos of 2020.”
Santiago isn’t the first to suggest the shade, though. Back in October, MyJobQuote.co.uk spoke with psychologist Lee Chambers about the best colors to paint your office to increase productivity. Blue came out on top, with Chambers touting the shade in much the same way: as a calming hue that promotes flow.
So if you were thinking of how to upgrade your home in 2021, adding a bit of blue may be just the thing. Also, if you want to see all of this upcoming year’s design trends, you can check out every prediction on Better Homes & Gardens.
