The end of the year is nigh, and everyone seems to be releasing their Best Of lists and trends to watch in the upcoming year. With these lists comes an annual favorite for design and style lovers: Pantone’s color of the year. 2021’s shade may not be what you expected.
For 2021, Pantone actually chose not one but two shades for its color of the year: yellow and gray (or if you want to get really specific Panton shade 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone shade 13-0647 Illuminating. Let’s be honest here, the decision to opt for gray kind of makes sense given how 2020 has gone, but bright yellow? Well, Pantone has a reason.
Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, explains the decision stating, “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit.”
Whether you were planning a wardrobe revamp or a living room makeover, the 2021 Pantone colors of the year may be the ones to try for a reminder to be strong and optimistic.
