Like all things, baby names have trends. Remember the days when all boys seemed to be named Matthew and girls were dubbed Britney? Well, 2021’s baby-name trends are switching things up and bringing some magic to parents’ naming processes.
According to name-finding service Nameberry, the biggest trend among names in 2021 is the idea of the “magic” name. The site describes these as “names of superheroes (and super-antiheroes), and names that carry an incantatory power to protect and strengthen our children in these difficult times.”
They include everything from religious names, like Kali and Messiah, to the more descriptive, like Noble and Legacy. But not everything will be so overt. The site also predicts that subtler magical names—like those that translate to specific traits, like “strength”—will also be popular.
Magical monikers aren’t the only trend. Others include gender-neutral names—specifically those that end in “ari”—and names inspired by the cottagecore aesthetic, like Clover, Silas, and Maisie.
But those are just a few of the multitude of name trends Nameberry picked up on for 2021. If you want to see all the baby names that might soon be popping up on shower invitations, you can check out the complete list over on Nameberry.
