Environmentally Friendly Baby Wipes That Get the Job Done

a selection of three different baby wipes
Dyper/Caboo/Pipette

Trying to live a sustainable life as a parent can be hard, but eco-friendly baby wipes make it that much easier. They’re better for both the environment and your child, and strong enough to handle any mess.

There are lots of baby products you don’t really need, but wipes aren’t one of them. Unfortunately, most are made of plastic or polyester, neither of which is good for the environment.

It’s nearly impossible to find baby wipes that are completely biodegradable, but there are plenty that are more eco-friendly. They’re also safer for a baby’s sensitive, super-absorbent skin.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of eco-friendly wipes that are both dependable and affordable.

Eco by Naty Unscented Baby Wipes

Eco By Naty

A highly rated option, Eco by Naty Unscented Baby Wipes are compostable, plastic- and perfume-free, and never contain chemicals. They’re made of 98.5% water, with some natural ingredients that make them perfect for a baby’s very gentle skin.

They’re also 100% compostable and feature an OK compost HOME certification by TÜV Austria, which means they’ll turn to soil in a compost heap. They also contain 99.5% plant-based ingredients, which also earned them an Ecocert COSMOS certification.

You won’t find any plastic, chlorine, chemical bleaches, dyes, synthetic fragrances, parabens, silicones, or GMOs in these wipes.

Dyper Baby Wipes

Dyper’s baby wipes are made of sustainable bamboo. Not only are they environmentally friendly, but they’re also super soft. They’re free of many of the chemicals you’ll find in other baby wipes and are made of 99% water, with other soothing ingredients like aloe. And the convenient packaging with a lid keeps these from drying out quickly.

Dyper is a subscription diaper service, so while you can purchase the wipes without subscribing, they’re cheaper if you do. If you’re also interested in eco-friendly bamboo diapers that are thick and absorbent, a Dyper subscription is the perfect solution.

Niki’s Natural Wipes

Niki’s Natural Wipes are made of 100% biodegradable purified wood pulp cloth, and they don’t contain any harsh ingredients, such as alcohol, chlorine, formaldehyde, or parabens. They’re hypoallergenic, nontoxic, and made of 100% natural ingredients.

They’re also super soft and soothing, which baby will love. These are the first baby wipes out there to be made with manuka honey essence and coconut oil. Manuka honey has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant properties that can help with inflammation and preventing diaper rash. Coconut oil is also incredibly hydrating and has anti-fungal properties.

Overall, they’re soft, good for the environment, smell amazing, and are very soothing. Basically, they kind of have it all.

WaterWipes

If you really want absolutely nothing in your baby wipes, then try WaterWipes Sensitive Baby Wipes. Made with 99.9% water and just a drop of fruit extract, these claim to be the purest wipes in the world.

The fruit extract helps hydrate and soothe baby’s skin while wiping. These are thick, absorbent, and always really moist, so they’re very easy to use and you don’t need to go through a ton of them at once. They’re fragrance-free and ideal for sensitive skin.

While the absence of harsh ingredients makes these great for baby’s skin and, overall, better for the environment than some other options on the market, WaterWipes are only 20% biodegradable.

Eco Pea Co. Bamboo Wipes

They’re also ideal for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, antibacterial, fragrance-free, and dermatologist-tested. As a bonus, they also have a nice textured grip that picks up everything it’s supposed to in one shot, so you don’t have to use more than one.

They come in a convenient package with a lid that locks in moisture, so you don’t have to worry about them drying out.

The Honest Co. Hypoallergenic Wipes

They’re hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested for very sensitive skin. They’re also gentle, fragrance-free, and made without alcohol, parabens, or chlorine processing. They have a really nice texture to them that makes them feel durable.

The pop-up dispenser also makes them really easy to grab and locks in moisture.

Yet another bamboo option is from Caboo. Made of viscose derived from sustainably grown bamboo, they’re formulated with safe ingredients that are 99.3% naturally derived. This makes them good for the Earth and for baby’s skin.

The little “Panda friendly” logo also means they don’t use bamboo pandas would eat. These wipes are also free of alcohol, chlorine, parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, and are unscented, so they’re perfect for sensitive skin. They’re absorbent and big enough to clean up even the toughest messes.

Pipette Fragrance-Free Baby Wipes
