Concrete Might Be 2021’s Biggest Flooring Trend

No one wants to clean the grout between tiles, and if you have wood floors, aren’t you always worried about damaging them? Well, 2021’s flooring trends feature a new solution: concrete.

Sure, concrete floors don’t feature the elaborate patterns of a handlaid tile, nor will you get any of that gorgeous wood grain, either. In terms of practicality, though, concrete really can’t be beat!

Not only does it provide a near undamageable surface, but just think about how easy it is to clean. Plus, this isn’t your grandmother’s concrete.

According to designer Max Humphrey, concrete grew in popularity during quarantine, and he’s using it more in his designs.

“Since the start of the pandemic, I’ve gotten weekly emails from potential clients that want to remodel their basement to be a more usable space like a home office,” Humphrey told Apartment Therapy.

“Many basements already have concrete flooring and instead of spending the money to add wood floors, tile, or carpet, I’ve leaned into the material and had it cleaned up and polished. I generally opt for a low-sheen so it doesn’t look too much like a garage floor, but you can even stain concrete so it has a more cohesive look.”

But concrete isn’t the only flooring trend predicted to be hot this year. If you want to see more, you can check out the whole list over on Apartment Therapy.
