A lot of people love ramen—even the three-minute, bowl-in-a-styrofoam-cup version. If this meal of noodles suits your budget, you can upgrade it. This hack transforms your ramen from cheap dorm room fare to luxurious dining experience in three ingredients.
YouTube channel, Way of Ramen, posted the video below showing a raw egg, grated garlic, and Kewpie mayonnaise being added to a pack of instant Sapporo ramen. This created a silky, miso-inspired recipe that’s way more luxe than what comes in the package.
To copy the recipe, put a tablespoon of Kewpie mayo (and it must be this Japanese-branded version due to its rice vinegar base), a raw egg, and a teaspoon of grated garlic into a bowl. Then, empty the flavor packet that comes with your ramen in the bowl and mix it all together until smooth.
Boil your noodles following the directions on the package. When they’re done, add the boiling water and noodles to the mixture. Then, stir until you’ve got the perfect, miso-inspired meal.
Of course, you can find garlic cloves and eggs at any grocery store, but you might be stumped about where you can get Kewpie mayonnaise. Believe it or not, it’s available at Walmart for around $5. You can also pick up your Sapporo ramen while you’re there.
You’ll never eat your ramen plain again.
