You’ve heard the old saying that oil and vinegar don’t mix, right? When it comes to cleaning, though, these two enemies are the perfect secret weapon!

Ariel Rothbard, lifestyle expert at TaskRabbit, revealed this genius cleaning hack in an interview with Well and Good. She explained that relying only on premade sprays and polishes when cleaning isn’t necessary.

She uses distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and a microfiber cloth to clean appliances. She then pours a small amount of olive oil onto the same cloth and wipes down the appliance again to make the stainless steel really shine. If you don’t have any olive oil and or vinegar, though, Rothbard recommended some substitutes.

“All you need to do is moisten your microfiber cloth with a little water and dish soap, then clean your appliance,” Rothbard said. “To restore the shine, apply a bit of baby oil on your other microfiber cloth and apply it. And voilà! Your appliances will look brand new.”
