Just like open concept living areas, some kitchen trends are also on their last gasp. One of these was also extremely popular on, like, every show on HGTV.
As we’ve covered before, one of 2021’s biggest kitchen trends is color. Green cabinets, in particular, were popularized by actress Dakota Johnson’s home. This, coupled with the move away from farmhouse style in favor of more modern aesthetics, means it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that all-white kitchens are going bye-bye.
Henrieta Imrie, interior designer and founder of Imrie Design Studio, and Cassandra Schinkel, founder of Schinkel House of Design, both told Hunker that white is soon to be a thing of the past.
Schinkel said the look has become “dated and sterile.” Imrie added that, instead of opting for stark white cabinets and details, people should choose warm colors and incorporate accent materials with “warmth and depth [to] add dimension and texture.”
If you’re less than thrilled that your crisp, white kitchen will soon be considered outdated, don’t worry. In March, Nichole Holmes, a realtor on the Netflix show Marriage or Mortgage, said white cabinets will never go out of style. While she admitted they’re fading in popularity, they’re still a personal favorite of hers.
