Minimalism Can Make Your Space Look Larger

Live in a small apartment? While you might not be able to knock down walls to expand, there are some methods you can use to create the illusion of more space. One of the best, according to one designer, is to embrace minimalism.

According to Laura Akahoshi, a design director at Property Staging Services, too many small accessories and bold colors can make an already small space appear even smaller. She recommends incorporating a few large pieces as décor and leaving lots of spaces empty instead of filling it with knickknacks.

When it comes to colors, Akahoshi said to choose just one accent shade, then avoid incorporating it via too many accessories.

For example, too many pillows and throws can cut down on visual space. Yes, they’re fluffy and cozy, but to get the most out of your home, the design director advises adding color via just two or three pillows and one throw.
