Ever wondered who invented s’mores? While there’s no way to know for sure, a 1927 Girl Scouts publication called Tramping and Trailing included some recipes for “some mores.” Later publications changed the spelling to “s’mores.”

Marshmallows, that all-important ingredient in s’mores, were enjoyed by the ancient Egyptians as far back as 2000 B.C. When it comes to cooking these treats, everyone has their own idea of what toasty perfection looks like. Luckily, there’s a handy chart to help you determine your perfect roast.

Today, some top American manufacturers create s’more-flavored treats, featuring graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.

Camp Meade currently holds the title for “World’s Largest S’more.” In 2019, at the Winter S’morestice—an annual event in Middlesex, Vermont—a team of employees and volunteers actually made a 343-pound s’more!

Now that you know a little more about these much-beloved toasty treats, it’s time to take things up a notch with some fun s’mores-flavored recipes.
