If you’re anything like us, cleaning your oven doesn’t always make it to your weekly to-do list because, let’s be honest, it’s a pain. But there’s a surprising cleaner that’s going to make removing all that caked-on grease much easier.
Laundry detergent—specifically, powdered Tide—is a simple way to get your oven looking pristine.
This hack comes from the TikTok-famous cleaning company, Go Clean Co., which uses Tide for practically everything. The reason it works so well on your oven is that it’s an excellent degreaser.
The company explained on its Instagram that powdered Tide is a surfactant, which is a cleaner that breaks down grease and grime, and can also break up dirt that water can’t. Plus, it contains enzymes that help break down food stains. Pretty powerful, right?
To use this trick, just mix 1 teaspoon of Tide per bucket of hot water. If you have a smaller oven, you can reduce the amount of water and cut down the Tide, as well. Make sure your oven is off and completely cool before you get started.
Dip a sponge into the mixture and start scrubbing. As you do, the grease and any stuck-on food should start dislodging.
Since you’re already working in the kitchen, you can also mop those floors with Tide, if you want.
