Waze and Headspace Teamed Up to Help You Avoid Road Rage

Whether you’re commuting or on a road trip, traffic is the worst. That’s why two popular apps have teamed up to make it less stressful.

Popular meditation app, Headspace, has collaborated with the Waze navigation app to create a new mindful navigation system. The program is meant to help drivers “find more joy and meaning on the road” and features directions from Eve Lewis Prieto, director of meditation at Headspace.

When using Waze x Headspace, you’ll be able to choose from five moods: Aware, Bright, Hopeful, Joyful, or Open. Each transforms the navigation experience with custom driving queues and allows you to switch out the in-app car icon for a soothing hot air balloon.

You’ll also be able to access a specially curated playlist on Spotify to help soothe you as you drive.

While this might seem like a difficult switch to make—going from ultra-stressed driving to a more mindful commute—Prieto advises that you just take it slow and be kind to yourself.

“Recognise that the mind is always going to want to think or to get distracted and you are not doing anything wrong if you find that your mind is very busy,” said Prieto. “Simply notice that you have become distracted and guide your attention back to what it is that you are doing without judging or criticizing yourself.”

If you want to give it a try, just add the Waze app to your phone, and then activate the Headspace service in the app’s settings. Armed with Waze, the soothing Spotify playlist, and a few other tips, you’ll soon turn your stressful commute into some relaxing “you” time.
