Buying Guide for Women’s Lacrosse Cleats

Why should you buy lacrosse cleats?

Most teams or leagues will require that players wear cleats. However, if the choice is yours, you should still consider purchasing quality lacrosse cleats instead of using your normal sneakers. Lacrosse cleats help you gain better traction on the field. They’re also designed to be lightweight and flexible to support quick movements and play changes.

What should you consider when shopping for women’s lacrosse cleats?

  • Type of Field: Different traction is needed depending on which field your game is played on. While some seasons will go from turf to grass, you may know which type of field you’ll be playing on the most. Grass fields require a deeper, stronger hold so that you can be agile without slipping. Turf surfaces don’t require long cleats but traction with grips on the base of the shoes is still important.
  • Color: Some teams will require certain colors in the cleats to match as a team, while others let you choose. Check with your team before purchasing so that you can get the right color or be free to choose the one you like the most.
  • Ankle Support: Lacrosse is a game that requires agility to keep up with changing directions of the game. Ankle strength is important, and when the cleat supports the ankle, this can make the game safer. However, not everyone likes the feeling of cleats coming up to a mid-rise.

What is the best way to care for cleats?

If your cleats aren’t particularly dirty, the best way to store them between practices and games is in a space with airflow to keep them from stinking. While outside of your lacrosse bag would be best, keeping them in the bag with it at least unzipped will help.

If your cleats are dirty after a muddy field, try to wait until they can dry (in that open area) so that removing dirt is a lot easier. Spray off the dirt with water or wipe it off with a wet cloth. Then give the shoes plenty of time to air dry to help them stay clean while keeping their supportive shape.

Our Picks for the Best Women’s Lacrosse Cleats

Best High-Top Shoes

Under Armour Women's Highlight Mc Lacrosse Shoe

Protect your ankles during the fast game of lacrosse with these colorful cleats.

Pros: Be ready for any change of the game with these supportive high-top cleats. Synthetic material makes these cleats breathable and comfortable. The 4D molded foam footbed conforms to your foot’s shape to not only be extra comfy, but it prevents your foot from slipping around inside the cleats. The metallic logo accents are available in four colors and add extra style to this functional shoe.

Cons: There is limited sizing available in each color.

Bottom Line: While these shoes boast four color options, they are not available in all sizes. Once you can find the correct size you need in an acceptable color (they’re all pretty), the cleats are a supportive and comfortable option for lateral movements and fast-paced games. Breathable fabric balances out the support of the shoe to make it a high-performance option for lacrosse.

Best Mid-Cut Shoes

New Balance Women's Burnx2 Mid Cut Lacrosse Shoe

These cleats feature a knit upper for greater breathability and flexibility to keep up with every play.

Pros: Quick starts, stops, and changes in direction are all parts of a lacrosse game. These cleats come up to the ankles for stability, which is especially helpful on the field with lots of running path changes. These cleats help support agility and speed with their supportive traction and breathable, flexible uppers. Made of synthetic materials and mesh, the shoes are lightweight and comfortable, while the dual-density thermo polyurethane provides flexibility, stability, and traction. These flashy cleats come in three color combinations.

Cons: The sizes run small.

Bottom Line: While buyers recommend ordering one to two sizes larger than usual, once you find the right size, these cleats provide the right amount of support and flexibility to help you keep up with every play. The mid-cut height reaches the ankle for stable turns and quick stops. Thanks to the mesh material and knit uppers, your feet will be able to breathe during intense games and practices.

Most Comfortable

Under Armour Women's Lacrosse Highlight Mc Shoe

These high-top cleats wrap your feet in extra support for more control and comfort.

Pros: These lacrosse cleats are made of lightweight yet supportive synthetic material and feature metallic stitching for style. In addition to the molded 4D foam footbed, these cleats have UA ClutchFit upper wraps that hug your feet for extra support to prevent sliding around. This feature is meant to give your feet more intentional power. The high-top height creates extra support for the ankles. These shoes are available in four colors.

Cons: These may run small for some feet.

Bottom Line: If foot and ankle stability are a top concern for your feet during lacrosse, this is a great option to consider. The UA ClutchFit and the high-top design of the shoe help to stabilize the feet inside the cleats. The sizing may be a bit small for some people, so order with enough time to make sure you have the right fit.

Cons: These cleats only come in one color.

Bottom Line: Find the best fit for your feet while playing lacrosse. These cleats are designed for both men and women, so finding the right size might be easier than other options.
