The Best Women’s Pants for Golf

Whether you’re tall, curvy, athletic, petite, or some combination of these, when you’re on the golf course, your pants have to fit well but still allow for freedom of movement as you swing. Your pants also have to be appropriate for weather conditions—all while still meeting course dress codes. And, of course, you want to look chic and stylish both on the course and in the clubhouse!

You can check with the management of the course where you intend to play to make sure your planned outfit conforms to their rules, but here are some general tips that will help you in most locations:

  • Golf dresses are a new trend and may be accepted by some courses. Other dresses are generally considered inappropriate by clubs.
  • Wear polo shirts or collared blouses, with or without sleeves, that are neither too tight nor too loose. Both printed and single-color tops should be fine for play.
  • Try to wear only one brightly colored piece of clothing. Consider color combinations that match but contrast, sticking to more conservative options as a general rule.
  • Tank tops, t-shirts, cropped tops, and halter tops are generally not allowed. Shirts are preferably tucked into bottoms.
  • If you choose to wear shorts or a skort, be sure they meet the course’s length requirement. Many, if not most, courses do not accept bottoms that are higher than 4 inches above your knees. Denim pants or shorts, sweatpants, leggings, and cargo pants are typically not allowed.
  • If you choose to wear pants, capris, cropped, and ankle-length pants are acceptable. Slacks must reach just above the shoes.
  • If your bottoms have belt loops, you may be required to wear a belt.

What Makes Pants Right for Playing Golf?

Pants are a safe choice on most courses, and the pants that work best for the game are lightweight, stain-resistant, easy to clean, and have pockets that are good for storing tees, balls, and other items.

Comfort during play is key, so your golf pants should also:

  • Stretch with your movements.
  • Wick any moisture away from your body and dry quickly.
  • Offer UV protection.
  • Be water-repellant and, depending on the season, wind-resistant.

Be sure to measure yourself and check the size charts carefully when you’re ordering.
